I’m Steve Race, your Labour MP for Exeter. Before being elected in July 2024, I spent over 15 years campaigning for our city - knocking on doors, helping residents, and standing up for the services and investment Exeter needs. Now, I’m incredibly proud to represent Exeter in Parliament, working day in and day out to deliver the changes we need, for our city and for our country.
Growing up under a Tory government, I saw first-hand the impact of inequality. The council house that I grew up in was cold, overcrowded, and unsuitable for my disabled sister. My comprehensive school was crumbling, and we had to share textbooks between three in a class. When Labour came to power, things changed: we moved into a new purpose-built council house, and I was the first in my family to go to university.
After another 14 years of Conservative rule, the Tories have left things worse than ever. Our NHS is under pressure, buses are unreliable, too many people can’t get a dentist, and the public services we all depend on are fraying.
I’m committed to fighting for a fairer and truly inclusive city – where everyone has access to a warm, secure home, well-paid jobs, great education, and world-class healthcare. I’ll work to get Exeter the investment it needs and do my best to represent all of our diverse communities.
I am a Patron of St Petrock’s and regularly advocate for homeless people and the services that support them in Exeter. I have also spent time as a school governor at a primary school in the city – I want to make sure every child gets the best start in life possible.
Exeter is a brilliant city, full of ambition and talent. With a Labour government, we can unlock its full potential and build a fairer future for all.
