New Best Start Family Hub in Wonford

I’m really pleased that the Chestnut Family Hub in Wonford is set to become one of the country’s first Best Start Family Hubs, bringing a major expansion of the services already supporting local families.

People across Exeter know that Sure Start worked, and its abolition under the last government means it is sorely missed by families with children who need a bit of extra support. Now, Labour is rebuilding the legacy of Sure Start.

The Chestnut Family Hub is already a valued community resource, and this announcement means more support under one roof, making it easier for parents and carers to get help at the right time. Families will be able to access parenting advice, health support, Healthy Babies services, and early help for children with SEND, all in one place.

What really matters is how joined‑up this approach will be. By expanding existing services and bringing professionals together, the hub will help spot issues earlier, offer practical support sooner, and make sure families aren’t passed from service to service.

For parents of babies and young children, having access to coordinated health visiting, midwifery, infant feeding and perinatal mental health support can make a huge difference.

I’m delighted that the Government has committed to strengthening what works and making sure families in Exeter get the support they need, close to home.
