I’m really pleased to share that the Government has confirmed significant new investment to strengthen our city’s flood defences and help protect homes and businesses from future flooding.
For 2026/27, Exeter will receive £2.86 million for essential repairs and upgrades to Trews Weir, alongside £484,000 to support improvements to the Exeter Flood Defence Scheme. This builds on funding announced last year, meaning more than £4 million has now been committed recently to flood resilience projects in the city.
Flooding has caused real disruption for families and businesses in Exeter and across Devon in recent years. As climate change brings more frequent and extreme weather, making sure our flood defences are resilient and well maintained is absolutely essential.
This latest funding, on top of what was announced last year, will make a genuine difference locally. Investing in flood defences is not just about protection. It’s economic investment, environmental investment, and about giving people confidence that their homes, livelihoods, and city are being safeguarded.
I’ll continue to work closely with the Environment Agency and local partners to make sure Exeter gets the flood protection it needs, now and into the future.
